Questions For Your Wedding Videographer

When you’re planning your wedding, choosing the right videographer is crucial. Your wedding film isn’t just another video—it’s a way to relive your day, the emotions, and all those little moments you might miss in the whirlwind of it all. To help make sure you find the best fit for your wedding, here are 10 important questions to ask your videographer. How long have you been filming weddings?

I’ve been filming weddings for a little more than 10 years. This is an important question to ask. Make sure you’re hiring someone with expertise in live events and who has good, clear communication throughout the planning process. That way, you’ll feel confident and happy with your final video!

How many cameras do you use?

When I’m filming by myself, I use three cameras for the ceremony and two for the reception. This gives me multiple angles in case someone walks in front of the camera. For other events, like getting ready, portraits, and cocktail hour, I use one camera. If I have a second filmmaker with me, we can get even more angles for the key moments!

Who will be filming our wedding?

I will! When you book with me, I’ll be the lead filmmaker at your wedding. If you’ve chosen to add a second filmmaker, I work with a network of professionals that I’ve collaborated with before. Once I’ve secured someone for your date, I’ll let you know who will be joining me. This is especially important to ask if you’re working with a larger company, as it’s good to meet the person actually filming your wedding if it’s not the person you’ve been communicating with.

How do you protect my footage?

Immediately, carefully, and multiple times! As soon as I get home from your event, I save your footage on multiple drives in case of a drive failure. I also don’t delete the footage from my memory cards until your wedding is fully edited.

Do you have backup personnel and equipment?

Yes! I know several videographers who I can reach out to in case of an emergency. I also bring backup cameras and audio recorders, as well as extra batteries and memory cards, so I’m always prepared for any situation.

How long is the final film(s)?

This depends on the package you select. Every package comes with a full ceremony edit and a highlight of varying lengths. Some packages also include additional films, like full speeches.

Can I add extra hours?

Of course! You can add extra hours ahead of time or even on the day of your wedding. I’ll also check with you about 15 minutes before my scheduled end time to see if you’d like me to stay longer. Don’t be afraid to say yes—I want to make sure I capture everything that’s important to you!

Do you charge travel fees?

Travel is included in your package unless it’s a destination wedding outside of New England and New York.

How do you choose the music you will use? 

I have to license the music I use, and I have several websites where I can find tracks. I listen to licensed music regularly and pick songs that match the feel of your day. If you’d like more input, I can create a playlist for you to review that I think fits the vibe.

How many weddings do you film a year?

Starting in 2023, I’m limiting myself to 15 weddings max each year. This way, I can give each couple the time and attention they deserve, without rushing, and send out a film I’m truly proud of.
