Some love stories are just meant to be—even if they take a little time to come full circle. Rachel and Jay’s wedding at The Lakehouse in Halifax, Massachusetts was a beautiful reflection of their journey together. As part of the Saphire Event Group’s collection of stunning wedding venues, it provided the perfect backdrop for their elegant, minimalistic, and nature-inspired celebration.
Rachel and Jay first crossed paths as teenagers working at a summer camp in Plymouth—Camp Clark. Rachel was a lifeguard, Jay was a counselor, and while their paths intertwined that summer, life took them in different directions. Jay moved to Texas for college and later became a Marine, while Rachel stayed in Massachusetts to pursue a career in nursing.
Fast forward over a decade, and fate (plus a little social media encouragement from Rachel’s friend) brought them back together. A chance run-in at East Bay Grille in downtown Plymouth led to plans to catch up by the pool at their shared Pinehills community. That casual hangout turned into dinner at Rye Tavern—and, well, the rest is history.
Rachel and Jay’s wedding day was one of those warm August afternoons where the sun danced in and out of the clouds, with just enough wind to keep things interesting. The setting at The Lakehouse was perfect—a mix of lush gardens and serene lake views, reflecting both of their personalities. Jay, who grew up freshwater fishing, loved being by the water, while Rachel, a self-proclaimed plant mama, adored the surrounding greenery.
Jay made quite the entrance, arriving at the ceremony by boat with his best man. It was such a fitting moment for him, and seeing him dock by the ceremony space set the tone for a day that felt personal and true to them. Rachel’s entrance was just as unforgettable—the wind picked up just as she walked down the aisle, making her veil and dress move so beautifully. It was one of those movie-like moments that couldn’t have been planned better if we tried.
Rachel’s godmother officiated the ceremony, adding a heartfelt, personal touch that made the vows even more special. There wasn’t a dry eye in sight.
Rachel’s dress was an absolute dream—a sleeveless gown with a sweetheart neckline, boning in the bodice, and intricate floral appliqués from top to bottom. It was romantic, timeless, and fit her like it was made just for her. Jay and his groomsmen kept it classic with black tuxes and black ties, while the bridesmaids wore gorgeous silk dresses in earthy tones, each with a twist halter neckline that gave a modern, yet effortless look.
The color palette was inspired by their love for the outdoors—natural, warm earth tones that blended seamlessly with the venue’s surroundings. Their centerpieces were a standout, too—each one was different yet cohesive, with florals that looked as if they’d just been gathered fresh from a garden.
One of the most special parts of the day? The fact that The Lakehouse had only recently opened, making Rachel and Jay one of the very first couples to celebrate their wedding there. That fresh, new energy mixed with the history of their love story made the whole day feel extra meaningful.
And of course, I can’t forget the speeches. The heartfelt words from family and friends brought a mix of laughter and tears, making it clear just how much love surrounds these two.
Rachel and Jay found me through Jennie and Doug, a couple whose wedding I filmed back in 2020. Rachel told me, “You capture all the moments. You draw in our own personalities through your hard work.” That meant so much to hear because that’s exactly what I aim to do—preserve the real, raw, and joyful moments that make a wedding day yours.
Rachel and Jay, your day was an absolute dream, and I’m so grateful to have been a part of it. Here’s to a lifetime of love, adventure, and maybe even a few more unexpected reunions that turn into forever.
