Samantha & Conrad’s Intimate Fall Wedding at the Mansion at Bald

You know those couples who make strangers stop and ask “wait, how long have you been married?” even though they’ve only been dating a few months? That’s Sam and Conrad. Their love is the kind you can actually feel when you’re in the room with them, not performative, not for show, just genuinely, obviously theirs.

When they got married at the Mansion at Bald Hill in Woodstock, Connecticut this past October, everything about the day reflected exactly who they are: intentional, honest, and completely themselves.

How Two People Who Knew What They Wanted Found Each Other

Here’s what I love about their story. Sam decided she was done playing games. She made her Hinge profile as authentically her as possible and was upfront from the start: she wanted a husband, a best friend, a real partnership.

Meanwhile, Conrad had his own realization. After months of dating, he figured out something important: if you’re going to do this marriage thing anyway, why settle? Why not aim for the absolute best partner you can find?

When Conrad saw Sam’s profile, he knew immediately there was something different. “This girl is so genuinely herself, how is that even possible?” He messaged her right away, got her on the phone, and they talked about everything: politics, religion, kids, marriage, life goals. All before they’d even met in person.

Ramen, Ice Cream, and Hours of Conversation

Their first date was at a ramen place in Oldsmar. Conrad showed up in a Hawaiian print shirt, taller than Sam expected (she was glad she wore heels). He ordered for her since she’d never had ramen, and they talked for hours. When dinner ended, Sam wasn’t ready to stop talking, so she suggested ice cream. Right there at that little ice cream shop, they planned their second date, one week away.

Sam went on one more date with someone else before that second date, but the entire time, all she could think about was Conrad. She cut that date short and texted him how excited she was to see him again.

The Moment Conrad Knew

That second date is still Sam’s favorite. Conrad brought gorgeous flowers wrapped in fancy paper, like something from a movie. They sat at an intimate corner table at Oak and Ola, and then Sam did something that changed everything: she moved her chair to Conrad’s side of the table to share food and people-watch.

That’s when Conrad fell in love. Watching her confidently claim her space next to him, just being completely herself. He called his mom on the way home from their first date and said, “I’m going to marry that girl.”

On the walk back to their cars, Sam asked if they were exclusive because she had another date scheduled. Conrad said yes. Sam canceled that date right then and there. Two years later, they got married.

A Florida Girl’s Dream of New England Fall

Sam grew up in Florida, and the idea of a fall wedding surrounded by autumn leaves was irresistible to her. But choosing Connecticut for their wedding was about more than gorgeous foliage. Conrad is from Connecticut, and having the wedding there meant his grandparents could attend, something that really mattered to both of them.

The Mansion at Bald Hill was perfect. Old English manor vibes, elegant and timeless, exactly the Pride & Prejudice aesthetic Sam loves. And those autumn leaves? Come on. They were stunning.

Classic Elegance Meets Personal Touches

Sam and Conrad’s vision was clear from the start: classic, elegant, traditional. And that’s exactly what they created at the Mansion at Bald Hill.

Sam wore a stunning Ines Di Santo gown from Isabel O’Neil Bridal, a cat-eye strapless design with a basque waist and boning detail on the bodice, finished with bardot straps. It was elegant and timeless, exactly like her. Conrad looked sharp in a classic black tux from Men’s Warehouse.

But here’s one of my favorite details from the entire day: Sam had a new pair of glasses made specifically for her wedding. Not just any glasses, wedding glasses. Because when you’re someone who wears glasses every day, you want to look like yourself on your wedding day, just the most beautiful version of yourself. It’s such a thoughtful detail that perfectly captures who Sam is, intentional, authentic, completely herself.

Her bouquet from Rudbeckia Florals was gorgeous, and they even had a custom made plate created just for their cake cutting. These weren’t random details thrown together, they were chosen thoughtfully to create a day that felt both timeless and uniquely theirs.

An Intimate Day with the People Who Matter Most

Sam and Conrad kept their wedding intentionally small. Their wedding party was just two people: Sam’s maid of honor Annie and Conrad’s best man Andrew. That’s it. No elaborate productions, no trying to fill roles just to have a bigger bridal party. Just the people who mattered most.

And honestly? That intimacy created something really special. There was nowhere to hide, no distractions. Just two people making the biggest commitment of their lives, surrounded by the people they love most.

The Moments That Will Matter in Twenty Years

Walking into their wedding day, I could feel it immediately. This was going to be one of those days where love isn’t just present, it’s in every single moment. The way Sam and Conrad looked at each other all day wasn’t staged. This is just who they are.

Every glance carried the weight of their entire story: the phone call where they talked about everything that mattered, the ramen date, the moment she moved her chair to sit beside him, the two years they’d spent choosing each other every single day.

Their private vows absolutely wrecked me. After being so direct and honest with each other from day one, it made perfect sense that they’d want to exchange their most intimate promises just between them. These weren’t generic vows pulled from the internet. These were words born from two years of really showing up for each other.

And Joel’s speech? Sam’s dad got up there and just poured his heart out. There’s something about a father watching his daughter marry someone who genuinely sees her, loves her exactly as she is—nerdy, genuine, completely herself—that hits different. There weren’t many dry eyes in the room.

What This Day Was Really About

With just a handful of people present in that beautiful old mansion, with autumn leaves falling outside the windows, there was this incredible sense of intimacy. No trying to impress anyone. No curated moments for social media. Just Sam and Conrad, doing exactly what they set out to do two years earlier when they sat across from each other and decided to see where this could go.

They wanted their wedding to feel like them getting married, surrounded by their favorite people, in the most loving and genuine environment possible. They wanted it timeless and true to themselves, full of joy and laughter and proof that true love exists when you’re brave enough to go after it.

That’s exactly what they got.

Preserving What Really Matters

Twenty years from now, when Sam and Conrad press play on their wedding film, the centerpieces and timeline won’t matter. What they’ll remember is how loved they felt. Joel’s voice will crack with emotion during his speech all over again. Conrad’s face when he first saw Sam, those private vows they exchanged, the exact feeling of that moment, all of it will come flooding back.

Annie and Andrew will be standing right there beside them. Autumn leaves will fall outside those mansion windows. The sacrifice Sam made so Conrad’s grandparents could attend, the laughter and tears, the voices of the people who matter most, it will all be preserved.

But mostly, they’ll feel what it was like to be completely, utterly known and loved anyway. Because that’s what they built their relationship on from day one: radical honesty about who they are and what they want.

Sam moved her chair to Conrad’s side of the table on their second date. She’s been choosing to sit beside him ever since.

That’s the kind of love worth preserving. Not just documenting, preserving. Because twenty years from now, those voices, that laughter, that presence? That’s what’s going to matter.
