Jessica & Benjamin’s Autumn Wedding at The Hounds

Some love stories start with a chance encounter, a mutual friend, or a coffee shop meet-cute. Jessica and Benjamin’s story started with a swipe, a 92-mile distance, and a question that changed everything.

When they got married at The Hounds in Stonington, Connecticut on a perfect autumn day in September, everything about their celebration reflected exactly who they are: fun, playful, deeply affectionate, and just a little bit weird in the best possible way.

A Tinder Match That Almost Didn’t Happen

Here’s what I love about their story. In March 2018, Ben was visiting family in Connecticut and got bored, so he opened Tinder. He saw Jessica’s profile and swiped right. The only reason he even saw her was because she was living in CT at the time, so they were within each other’s radius. A few days later, Jessica opened the app, saw Ben’s profile, and swiped right too. They matched.

But when Jessica opened his profile, something caught her attention. He now showed as 92 miles away. So she did what any curious person would do, she messaged him first. “Why does it show that you’re 92 miles away?!”

That’s when Ben explained that he lives in Rhode Island but had been visiting CT recently. Pretty wild when you think about it. If Ben hadn’t opened that app on that specific day while visiting Connecticut, they never would have found each other. But he did, and they did, and everything changed.

A First Date Worth Remembering

Being in different states meant they couldn’t just meet up casually. They talked for about two weeks via phone calls and texts before deciding to take a chance on a real date. And what a first date it turned out to be.

They started at Mystic Pizza (yes, that Mystic Pizza), then took a walk around downtown Mystic before ending the night at The Harp and Hound, a cozy pub. It just happened to be the weekend of the St. Patrick’s Day parade, so the pub was packed. But they found their spot and spent hours talking about their interests, their families, and even scrolled through each other’s music libraries, discovering all the bands and musicians they both loved.

They didn’t want the night to end. It was perfect.

From that first date, they both knew what they had was special. Not just another relationship,something more. They clicked instantly. Conversations were effortless. They quickly became each other’s best friend.

After that first date, they spent every single weekend together for a year and a half. Every weekend, one of them making the drive. In August 2019, Jessica applied for and got a job in Rhode Island, and they finally moved in together.

Here’s the thing that gets me about their story: even after seven and a half years together, they still miss each other almost immediately after leaving and look forward to being back together. That kind of longing doesn’t fade for them. It’s just who they are.

Coming Full Circle in Mystic

When it came time to choose a wedding venue, the decision was easy. They wanted to be in or near Mystic, the place where their love story really began. Most of Jessica’s family is based in Connecticut, so staying close meant more of the people they love could attend. Plus, The Hounds offered everything they needed in one beautiful location, from getting ready in the bridal suite to the ceremony to cocktail hour and reception.

They knew they wanted a fall wedding. After getting engaged in November 2024, they quickly reached out to venues because most fall 2025 dates were already booked, and they didn’t want to wait until 2026. They lucked out when The Hounds had a few dates left. September 27th seemed perfect.

A Perfect Warm Autumn Day

Their wedding day delivered everything fall in New England promises. The sun was shining, there was a warm breeze, and the autumn colors were at their peak. Everything flowed effortlessly. It was the kind of stress-free day where you can actually feel the love and excitement in the air.

Jessica wore a stunning Justin Alexander a-line gown from Alexandra’s, with elegant bardot straps and intricate lace details on the bodice. It was romantic and timeless, perfect for an autumn celebration. Her bridesmaids wore rust orange dresses from Azazie Bridal, those rich autumn tones that look incredible against fall foliage.

Ben and his groomsmen wore sharp navy suits from Carl Anthony Tuxedo. The groomsmen’s ties and pocket squares matched the bridesmaids’ rust orange dresses, while Ben wore a white tie and pocket square to set him apart. The whole aesthetic was warm, romantic, autumnal, exactly what they’d envisioned.

Florals That Took My Breath Away

I have to talk about Jessica’s bouquet for a second. Lily & Vine created something absolutely stunning. Muted pinks, oranges, and reds in those soft autumn tones. Honestly? It was probably my favorite bouquet of the entire season. The kind of florals that perfectly capture what fall feels like, warm and rich and just a little bit moody in the most beautiful way.

The Moment That Surprised Everyone

Here’s the moment that still gets me. When it came time for Jessica to walk down the aisle, she didn’t just walk with her father, Bruce. She also walked with her grandfather, Richard.

It was a surprise to everyone, including most of the guests. Watching her walk down that aisle with both her dad and her grandfather, you could feel how much family means to her. How much it mattered to have both of these men, both of these generations, be part of this moment. It was one of those spontaneous decisions that ends up being one of the most meaningful parts of the day.

The Beauty of Love

What struck me most about Jessica and Benjamin’s wedding day was how easy everything felt. Not easy in the sense that it didn’t take planning or intention, but easy in the way they move through life together. The same effortless conversation they had at The Harp and Hound on their first date, the same natural connection that made them best friends almost immediately, it was all right there on their wedding day. You could see it in the way they looked at each other. The way they laughed together. The way their whole celebration felt warm and inviting, like you were welcomed into something special just by being there.

This is what happens when two people who are genuinely best friends decide to get married. There’s no pretense, no performance. Just two people who still can’t wait to see each other, even after seven and a half years, making it official in front of the people they love most.

What They’ll Remember Twenty Years From Now

When Jessica and Benjamin watch on their wedding film twenty years from now, they won’t just see the beautiful autumn day or the gorgeous florals or the elegant details. They’ll feel what it was like to be surrounded by that warmth and love.

They’ll see Jessica walking down the aisle with her dad and her grandfather, that surprise moment that meant so much. They’ll hear the laughter and the toasts. They’ll watch themselves dancing under those autumn skies, the same two people who spent hours in a packed pub on St. Patrick’s Day weekend, not wanting the night to end.They’ll remember the 92-mile distance that almost kept them apart. The weekend drives that brought them together. The decision to take a chance on someone they met on an app, and how that chance turned into the greatest adventure of their lives.

Because that’s what their wedding film really preserves. Not just the events of September 27, 2025, but the whole journey. From a bored swipe in Connecticut to “why are you 92 miles away?” to Mystic Pizza to The Harp and Hound to a year and a half of weekends to finally building a life together to coming back to Mystic to say “I do.”

That’s the kind of story worth preserving.
